a place in the heart (by lorin roche)

A place in the heart

The One Who is at Play Everywhere said:
There is a place in the heart where everything meets.
Go there if you want to find me.
Mind, senses, soul, eternity, all are there.
Are you there?

Enter the welcoming vastness of the heart.
Give yourself to it with total abandon.
Quiet ecstasy is there –
and a steady, regal sense of resting in a perfect spot.

Once you know the way
the nature of attention will call you
to return, again and again,
and be saturated with knowing,
“I belong here, I am at home here.”

Answer that call!

the sounds of string instruments

Listen with total attention
to the sounds of string instruments.
When performed with grace,
each note appears to rise out of eternity
and disappear back into it.

When the music ends,
stay with the echo of the last note
resonating inside you,
and as the echo fades away into silence
go with it.

enough (by david whyte)

Enough. These few words are enough.
If not these words, this breath.
If not this breath, this sitting here.

This opening to the life
we have refused
again and again
until now.
Until now

befriending darkness

Everyone has a cave.
I ignored mine for a long time.
Too dark and too scary.
But my demons got restless
and created a mess.
So I had to reluctantly warm up
to visiting once in a while.

In the beginning,
I didn’t like to go alone.
I often brought a friend along,
someone bold and brave enough
to face and feel with me
whatever challenged me.

Over time,
the cave got less scary.
the monsters more friendly.
As it turned out, a lot of attention
is really all they ever wanted
from me.

I have come to trust
that showing up
and connecting deeply
with what haunts me
rewards me with greater unity
and expanded capacity
to receive all the insights,
knowings, blessings,
life wants to offer me.

I am no longer treading life so carefully,
dreading what might happen to me
if my worst fears came to be.
The cave is becoming
a sanctuary.

No need to be afraid
of darkness
once you discover
it is a just a doorway
into freedom
and your own greatness.

learning to linger

I love to greet life
as it wakes and rises
inside me.

While lying quietly,
in the early morning hours,
I let my awareness
wander and meander
up and down my body,
tracing sensations
and currents of energy.

If I listen attentively,
I can hear the murmurs
of the river flowing slowly through me.
It whispers sweet messages
in a wordless language that nourishes me,
and seems to say:

“Stay a while longer.
These inner currents will fill you
with more energy and pleasure
than the outer world could ever offer.”

So, I am learning to linger,
feel, listen, feel,
linger a little longer,
and not be so busy.

I have come to treasure
these moments of deepening intimacy
with this pulsing presence inside me.

a flash of pure joy

The one who is intimate to all being said:

Beloved, your questions require the answers
that come from direct living experience.

The way of experience begins with a breath
such as the breath you are breathing now.
Awakening into the luminous reality
may dawn in the momentary throb
between any two breaths.

The breath flows in and just as it turns to flow out,
there is a flash of pure joy –
life is renewed.
Awaken into that.

As the breath is released and flows out,
there is a pause before it returns.
In that pause, you are empty.
Enter that emptiness as the source of all life.
